I remember when I first learnt that the valves between each chamber on the heart only allow the blood to flow ‘forwards’ to where it is meant to be and not backwards I thought that was really clever.
A fact not about the blood flow, but how it is pushed out is that in the left ventricle (the chamber that pumps blood out into your body), the walls of the heart dont just contract and become smaller in any way, the chamber rotates and twists itself – A lot like wringing out a wet towel- to help pump the blood the best it can.
