I think I always wanted to do something working in healthcare, something that would help people. When I was very young, I wanted to be a doctor. In the end I did a degree in human physiology, which was more about science and research than working in a hospital. The last year of my degree was all about hearts, and I just found it fascinating! We had a careers talk about jobs in science at university, and they talked about cardiac science: learning more about the heart, and how it works, and what happens in disease when it goes wrong, but also working in a hospital and getting the opportunity to work with patients every day, it sounded perfect for me!
