Technically, my first job is the current one since this is the first time I am not considered a student.

I’ve had lots of different types of jobs, but this is by far my favourite. When I was 14 I had a paper round, then I worked in the food and drink department at a theme park (Thorpe Park) for 5 years, while I was at college, and deciding where I wanted to go to university. I also did lots of work as a bartender at pubs and football and rugby stadiums. When I was at university I did some childminding, and also worked in the office of a hot air balloon company, answering customer questions, selling vouchers for balloon flights and booking peoples flights for them.

After my final exams I worked 3 jobs: bartender in a pub, childminding, and the hot air balloon company to save up to go travelling around South America! I was also applying for my current job at the time, but wasn’t successful in that years applications, so I worked analysing data for a business marketing company (definitely not my favourite job) while I applied for my Cardiac Science training post for the second time, and this time I was successful!

In science, I’ve had a job as a postdoctoral fellow in Canada, then as a lecturer in London and I’ve had my current job in Southampton for YEARS AND YEARS!!

I have had several jobs whilst I was at school and university to help fund university and also so I could buy things for myself. I worked as a paperboy, McDonalds where I progressed through the company from crew member to service manager and then I went onto Starbucks again I started as a barista and progressed to Store manager. My progressions came about as I love to learn new skills. And I am finally in my current role as a Biomedical Scientist in Blood Transfusion lab which is where I plan to be long term maybe progressing in the company in the future or moving to other departments to increase my skills.

These jobs greatly help me get experience along with various volunteering roles to help me build my CV and personal statement for univeristy. This is great to help you stand out from the crowd. I know school is highly important so a little job may not be possible but this could even be somehting you do a few days a week in school holidays.

Quite a few – mainly because I have worked as a Doctor and then went into Academia.

I have had quite a few jobs since i was a teenager. When I was 16 I got a job working in a pharmacy, helping to sell the medicines, I worked there on Saturdays and during the holidays while I went to university. Two summers between my years of university I worked i a nursing home, looking after residents. I have also worked for a company sending parcels, helping to set up new accounts for customers. I moved to New York for a while and worked for a company doing medical research. And now I am back being a student – although studying for a PhD is more like a job, than normal courses with classes and homework!
